Our values guide our growth

Our story began in 2014 with a small team of passionate technologists who collaborated with data champions in the Australian Government.

Our shared goal was to make geospatial data available to the public and easier to consume. Throughout our journey, we stayed true to our belief in open source, open data, and transparency, both within our team and with our collaborators and partners.

We have always experimented in the public, and through our lessons, supported organisations large and small on their journey to better produce, visualise, and use geospatial data. 

Over the past decade, our commitment and expertise have driven us to new heights. To date, we have partnered with over 50 data custodians, making more than 10,000 datasets from all levels of government in Australia available to over 2 million users. And as we look ahead, we’re more inspired than ever to continue breaking new ground in geospatial innovation. Our story is just getting started!

Key milestones

  • Accelerating industry Digital Twin Readiness through the Terria Early Adopter Program.

  • Launched the NSW Digital Twin Visualisation Service focused on Western Sydney Area.

  • In collaboration with Australian State Governments Terria pioneered the development of spatial digital twins in Australia.

  • TerriaJS is adopted for major projects like AREMI (Australian Renewable Energy Mapping Infrastructure).

  • NationalMap’s technology evolves into TerriaJS, an open-source library for geospatial visualisation, expanding its use beyond government projects.

  • The first version of NationalMap is released, enabling public access to Australian geospatial data using the open-source Cesium platform.
